Unpopular Truths About Weight Loss

Fat loss isn’t super easy.

And a lot of weight loss companies like to gloss over some of the facts that come with a weight loss journey.

I get it, some of the realities that comes with weight loss aren’t really great selling points.

Who wouldn’t want to choose the program that promises that you’ll never feel hungry, it’s simple if you follow a few particular rules,  and you’ll drop the weight that took you years to gain, in a month!

But no matter what, there are some things you should know about fat loss… and if you know these going in, you won’t be tricked into thinking this or that fad diet is magic, or that there is something wrong with you because it feels hard to stick with it.

Veggies do not taste as good a pizza, or cake, or fast food.

Processed foods are literally made to taste as good as possible. Broccoli isn’t…it just grows.

Nature has trouble competing with the food labs when it comes to building the most delicious food. Nature builds a lot of healthy nutrient dense foods and labs build high fat, high sugar foods that stimulate all the ‘eat more’ triggers your brain and body have.

Broccoli doesn’t really care if you eat it, but those guys selling frozen pizza… they care and they want you to buy more, and more, and more.

And when you’re trying to lose body fat, choosing broccoli more often than pizza is going to be the better choice and one you’ll have to make.

You will have to make some changes in your life.

If you want something to change, you must be willing to make changes.

You want to lose body fat, you’ll probably have to make changes to how you eat, and you’ll have to make changes long term.

To have lasting change, the changes you make have to last.

All calories matter.

Calories in, calories out. You must be in a deficit to lose body fat. And even calories from coffee creamer count. Or calories from a mushroom. And calories eaten on the weekend.

If you aren’t currently losing weight…that means in order to lose weight, you will have to eat fewer calories.  If you eat exactly as you are right now but eat less of it, you’ll lose weight. If you switch to lower calorie foods you might actually be able to eat more food, but still…fewer calories. Choose what you eat wisely.

Friends and family might not be supportive.

This one is harsh. I know.

Your family and friends might be annoyed with the changes you’re making.

You want to eat healthier meals.

You don’t want all of your time together to revolve around food.

You want to get to bed at a decent hour so you can workout in the morning.

They might poke fun, or even be outright mean about you choosing a salad and chicken over hot dogs and chips.

That says more about them than it does you.

This is SUPER common. Almost ALL of my clients struggle with this. It can be hard. It can be super disappointing.

You can’t control others…you can only control you and how you respond.

Weight loss can feel hard sometimes, but if you go into it knowing what to expect it can make it feel a bit easier because you aren’t blindsided.

Just remember, if it feels hard sometimes, you aren’t broken, there is nothing wrong with you… it isn’t effortless for anybody.

You can do it. You can reach your goal. You can make it a lifestyle. Keep moving forward.
